In her lecture Dr. Rigatto detailed how Italy has been a leader in fashion as far back as Catherine de Medici in the 16th century. The region has long been steeped in the tradition of elegance, extravagance and luxury and the courts of Europe looked to Rome as the standard for fashion as well as art, architecture and music.
Dr. Rigatto highlighted the contributions of high-end Italian brands and designers such as Gucci, Fendi, Prada, Armani, Versace, Valentino, Sciaparelli and Ferrugumo to the pedigree of Italian excellence in fashion.

Dr. Leilane Rigatto is a Professor at Accademia del Lusso, with over 20 years of international experience in higher education, fashion design, luxury business and academia. She holds a Ph.D. in Textiles and Fashion Design Management from the University of Sao Paulo (USP) and has taught in Italy at Accademia del Lusso, Istituto Marangoni, and Istituo Secoli as well as in Brazil at USP. Dr. Rigatto has authored numerous academic publications and is a frequent speaker at international conferences.
