Ten Questions with Brianna Roldan

Being deaf didn’t stop her – it fueled her. 

Brianna Roldan is a student at Harper who, with the support of Access and Disability Services, is chasing her dream of becoming a nurse. From working as a CNA during the pandemic to gaining experience in phlebotomy, every step has strengthened her passion for patient care and making a real difference.

Now stepping into clinicals, she is embracing hands-on learning and growing with every milestone. Guided by hard work, compassion and resilience, Brianna knows each lesson is shaping her into the nurse she’s meant to be. Here are ten questions with Brianna Roldan.

1. Describe your perfect day. 

My perfect day would start slow with a good breakfast, no stress or rushing. I’d spend time being productive – whether that’s studying, going to class or working toward my nursing goals – because I love feeling like I’m getting closer to my future. Later, I’d hang out with people I care about or even just relax with my cats. Ending the day feeling proud, peaceful and accomplished would make it perfect.

2. If you could be best friends any fictional character, who would you choose and why? 

I would choose Meredith Grey from Grey’s Anatomy because she’s strong, resilient and has gone through so much but still keeps going. As someone pursuing nursing, I connect with her dedication to health care and helping others, and I admire how she grows through everything she faces.

3. What would your loved ones say is your best quality? 

They would probably say my determination. Even when things get hard, I don’t give up easily. I keep pushing myself, especially with school and my goals of becoming a nurse.

4. If you could go back in time and tell 13-year-old Brianna one thing, what would it be? 

I would tell her to believe in herself more and not let fear or doubt hold her back. Everything you’re worried about now won’t matter as much later, and you’re stronger than you think.

5. What’s a color you gravitate towards? 

I gravitate toward light blue because it feels calm, peaceful and comforting. It reminds me to slow down and stay grounded, especially when life gets overwhelming.

6. If you could make a documentary on any topic, what would you choose? 

I would title it The Journey of a Blood Sample and use it to talk about my real experience drawing blood and what happens behind the scenes. I think it would help people understand how important and detailed the process is, even though patients often only see the first step.

7. Early bird or night owl?

I’m an early bird because I like having a fresh start to the day. Mornings make me feel more productive, focused and motivated to get things done.

8. What do you wonder about? 

I wonder about my future – what kind of nurse I’ll become, the patients I’ll meet and how I’ll grow as a person. I also wonder about different cultures and experiences around the world.

9. What are you hopeful for? 

I’m hopeful for a stable and peaceful life and for continued growth both personally and professionally. I’m also hopeful that all the hard work I’m putting in now will pay off.

10. What do you love most about 91ÖÆƬ³§?

What I love most about 91ÖÆƬ³§ is the support system – my professors, sign language interpreters, classmates, and the opportunities to grow academically and personally. It’s helped shape me and bring me closer to my nursing career.
