It's Springtime in Chicago(land)!

A picture of a sunset over a pond.

Can you hear the birds chirping more frequently in the morning? Did you notice that the days are getting longer (a 5:45 pm sunset today versus a 4:30 pm sunset last December; I will take that any day!)? Are you noticing that the grass is getting a little greener and the plants are starting to sprout? Or even that our college鈥檚 Spring Break is coming up? All of these events are indicators of Springtime in our area!

I鈥檝e compiled a list of my favorite inspirational quotes about the Spring season. Enjoy reading these gems of inspiration:

  1. 鈥淭he man who has planted a garden feels that he has done something for the good of the world.鈥 - Charles Dudley Warner
  1. 鈥淗appiness? The color of it must be spring green.鈥 - Frances Mayes
  1. 鈥淔lowers always make people better, happier, more hopeful.鈥 - Luther Burbank
  1. 鈥淭o plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.鈥 - Audrey Hepburn

Now, as far as books about Spring are concerned, there is a plethora of options that the library offers. Here is a quick list of titles that are Spring-inspired and in the library鈥檚 collection:

  • Ali Smith鈥檚 Spring (2019)
  • Botticelli, Allegory of spring (2000)
  • Tovah Martin鈥檚 The garden in every sense and season (2018)
  • Jill Rizzo鈥檚 The little flower recipe book: 148 tiny arrangements for every season & occasion (2022)

Remember that our friendly librarians and library assistants here at 91制片厂鈥檚 Library are happy to help you find any (or all) of these titles. Just ask!

To close, Springtime, in my opinion, is a great time to pull out those garden gloves that have been in hibernation in the garage all winter and get gardening! It is also time for Spring nature walks in places near and far. Finally, Spring is a time for early morning sunrises, a renewed spirit of optimism, and new beginnings (just like on New Year鈥檚 Day). Whatever you do this Spring, do it intentionally and do it well.
